Incomplete Policy

An instructor may choose to give an incomplete ( I ) to a student if it is determined that the student should have additional time to complete required assignments. The instructor will take into consideration illness or emergencies that may have affected the student’s performance.  The student is responsible to contact the instructor by phone, appointment, or letter to notify him/her of the problem.

When an incomplete is recorded with the office, it must be converted to a letter grade by the end of the following semester or it will be converted to the grade designated by the instructor on the incomplete form.  The instructor will have taken attendance, assignments, participation, quizzes, and exam grades into consideration.

Academic Load

A student who carries eight (8) or more credits per semester is considered to be full-time and will be billed accordingly.  When a student carries less than eight (8) credits per semester, he/she will be charged per course and be considered part-time.

Credit Hours

Word of Life School of Ministry is using semester credit hours for all courses in order to 1) better provide the student with adequate training hours for each subject matter and 2) to qualify our courses for transfer of credit acceptance
with other Bible institutes. The semester credit hour consists of 60 minutes of class contact hours per week for 12 weeks.

One semester credit hour is assigned for each 60-minute period of in-class instruction that a course is in session (class contact hour) per week for 11 weeks. (The typical university semester standard is 50 minutes of in-class instruction for 14 weeks.) In addition, students are assigned two hours of homework for each credit hour of instruction.

One semester credit hour is assigned to field work, practica, or internships that meet a minimum of two hours per week for 10 weeks.

Auditing Courses

Those individuals who do not want to receive scholastic credit may audit certain courses.  There is a non-refundable
$30 fee for each course audited.  All auditing students must follow the following guidelines:

  • Registration form with payment must be completed before the semester begins.
  • Participation in class, assignments, and exams are not required. Permission to do so is at the discretion of the instructor.
  • Participation in class discussion is to be limited in order to allow students taking courses for credit the time and attention they warrant.
  • Depending on the class size and ratio of credited and auditing students, auditing students may be asked to sit behind students taking the course for credit.
  • Some classes are not available to auditors.  Refer to registration forms.

Withdrawal

Students are entitled to voluntary withdrawal from a course or the school by notifying the school in writing of your intention and the date of withdrawal.  Upon withdrawal from a course, one of the following letter grades will be given:

WM - voluntary withdrawal before the mid-semester 6th week (no grade is given)
WP  - voluntary withdrawal after the 6th week of the semester (passing grade)
WF  - voluntary withdrawal after the 6th week of the semester (failing grade)

Course/Instructor Evaluations

At the close of the last day of each class or when given the final exam, each student will be provided a Course/Instructor Evaluation Form to complete. The form will be distributed by the assigned class student attendant
and collected by the same student, sealed in an envelope and given to the Dean.  The evaluation is only to assist “quality production” and is to be held in total confidence.  The student’s name should not appear on the completed evaluation form.

Transfer of Credit

Students who desire to transfer credits to Word of Life School of Ministry must have official transcripts and syllabus of each course for which transfer is requested send to Pastor Nancy Carey for review.  Courses of comparable content and work will be considered for transfer, provided the student has received a “C” or better. Forms are available in the office.  There is a $25 processing fee for transfer of credits.

Two-year credits will be accepted by Wagner Leadership Institute for those students who desire an Associates Diploma in Practical Ministry.  The cost of this process is $100.  A WLI application is required and checks are to be made payable to Wagner Leadership Institute.  For further information, please contact our office.

Students Records

In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, WOLSM insures the student of the following rights:  1) the right to inspect all of your educational records, 2) the right to prevent disclosure of this information to others outside of WOLSM staff without your written consent, 3) the right to request correction to any aspect of your record which you believe to be inaccurate or in violation of your rights, and 4) the right to file a complaint or receive a copy of the act from the Family Policy and Regulation Office, U.S. Department of Education, 400 Maryland Avenue S.W., Washington, DC 20202.

There is a $3 fee required for each official transcript requested. Transcripts will be not released until all financial obligations are satisfied.

Student Disciplinary Procedures

Students are expected to maintain a high quality lifestyle that befits a Christian displaying the character of Jesus Christ in his/her walk.  Academic honesty and self-discipline in study habits are expected.  Dishonesty relative to academic
work is grounds for suspension or immediate dismissal from the school. Any dishonesty of exams, quizzes, term paper, etc. will result in loss of credit for the course and a notation on the permanent records of the school.

First Offense:  Student meets with the instructor.

Repeated Offenses:  The student will meet with the instructor, chairperson of student’s concentration, and the school’s administrator, who may suspend or dismiss the student from the school until a repentant lifestyle is proven, at which time, the student may be re-enrolled in the school.

Student Grievance Appeal Procedures

A student who wishes to appeal the disciplinary action taken must notify the school’s administrator in writing within
thirty (30) days of the disciplinary action. The administrator will set a hearing date with the student, school’s administration, and two members of the student body to form and ad hoc committee will be final and the student will be notified in writing within one week of the decision.
